Trip Overview

The Helambu trek is a perfect short trek nearby Kathmandu Valley. Despite being so close to Kathmandu, the Helambu region remains relatively un-spoilt. Besides the Hyolmo culture of high mountain people, the company of green rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, and snow-capped Himalayas make the trek one of most diverse treks near Kathmandu.

The best trek starting point for Helambu is Sundarijal (1350m), 45 minutes drive from Kathmandu. Helambu trekking offers a scenic loop through villages of varied ethnic makeup with good high mountain views. On the way of Helambu there is a surprising amount of old- growth forest. Magnificent old rhododendrons grace the trail between Tharepati and Malemchaigaon. It has a splendid variety of wild flowers, snow covered peaks, and varieties of birds to make your journey remarkable. The best time for trekking in the Helambu area is from October to May. In this area good lodges are abundant and uncrowned.
